I have been using Kiehls Midnight recovery eye cream for about a year and have not seen any significant results. I began using the dr. Brandt retinol eye cream and within a week I noticed a huge difference. I have really dark circles and although they are not completely gone, they are less apparent. The fine lines around my eyes have also diminished. I am absolutely in love with this product and a little goes a long way.
I don’t feel like it is a well rounded product for anti-aging. I would go with another product that has not just retinol, but more of a mix of anti-aging ingredients: antioxidants, skin-replenishing ingredients, and skin-restoring ingredients like vitamin c (helps the retinol in its mission to increase the collagen production as well as improve your skin’s elasticity, can defuse free radicals and counterbalance the negative effects of exposure to UV rays), hyaluronic acid (to maintain the skin’s moisture and plumpness), ceramides (helping skin retain water and also help repair the skin’s natural barrier and regulate cells), peptides like argireline (delivers the same effect as botox) and palmitoyl oligopeptide (to facilitate the production of elastin and collagen), stem cells (protect the human skin stem cells from damage and deterioration or stimulate the skin’s own stem cells), arnica (to refuce puffiness), and broad-spectrum sun protection if used during the day. Also, pay attention to packaging to prevent product breakdown! Any type of packaging that exposes retinol to light and air is a no-go. Opt for products that come in opaque tubes and bottles with a pump dispenser.

Murad has perfected the science of Retinol with this breakthrough serum, powered by Retinol Tri-Active Technology: a fast-acting Retinoid, a time-released Retinol, and a Retinol booster. This potent, yet gentle, formula quickly and visibly minimizes lines and deep wrinkles, firms, evens skin tone and boosts radiance for more vibrant, youthful-looking skin.

This drugstore find is packed with hyaluronic acid, which as you may know helps lock hydration into the skin. It’s one of those good-for-everyone picks: It’s light enough for oily skin, hydrating for anyone thanks to the potency of the hyaluronic, and the gel texture makes it cool to the touch. We like to swipe this one under makeup in the mornings.
As always, cleanse, tone, and then apply your AHA or BHA exfoliant. You don’t need to wait for it to absorb; apply your other products immediately after, beginning with the lightest textures first. Finish with the creamiest or thickest product. For example, if your retinol product has a fluid texture, you’d apply it directly after your AHA or BHA exfoliant and follow with the other products in your routine. If it’s a cream or lotion, first apply your lightweight booster, essence, treatment, or fluid serum products, and finish with the retinol cream. If you’re using a rich creamy moisturizer as well, apply that last.
If you think an over-the-counter wrinkle cream with retinol is right for your skin, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream (Est. $13 for 1.4 oz.) is a longtime favorite among reviewers because it’s affordable and it works. This retinol night cream contains a notable amount of antioxidants (green tea and two forms of vitamin E), all in a moisturizing base. Beauty products expert and BeautyPedia.com site owner Paula Begoun says, “It is definitely one of the better retinol products at the drugstore,” due to its high content of quality ingredients at its affordable price point.
The first thing to look for in the battle against dark circles is the same thing we use to jumpstart tired brains in the morning: caffeine. “You lose collagen and elastin under your eyes as you age,” says Klein. “Since that skin is thin to begin with, the blood vessels show up more and more. Caffeine shrinks the blood vessels to help make that blue color less noticeable.”

Retinol, also known as Vitamin A1, is a vitamin found in food and used as a dietary supplement. As a supplement it is used to treat and prevent vitamin A deficiency, especially that which is resulting in xerophthalmia. In areas where deficiency is common a single large dose is recommended to those at high risk a couple of times a year. It is also used to prevent further issues in those who have measles. It is used by mouth or injection into a muscle.

Though waking up with puffy eyes happens to many, dark circles and under-eye puffiness can start to linger or become more noticeable due to age and the breakdown of fat and collagen. Retinol helps with cell turnover and collagen synthesis, and can be used for restoring and reviving skin around your eyes. There are many eye creams available that contain retinols to help you look rested and refreshed, along with other ingredients to soothe the sensitive skin in the eye area.
I’m just turning 39 & noticing that those little lines are just starting to creep up out of nowhere. So I did some research on what kind of eye creams I should use & bought a product with Retinol. Long story short, it made the lines worse & much more noticeable!!! I do not recommend Retinol.
While a few basic skincare ingredients have become household names, one is constantly part of the conversation: retinol. We’ve all heard of it, but after discussions both in and outside the office, it’s now crystal clear we’re not all exactly sure what it is—or how it works. That’s where I come in.

I’ve been using this eye cream for night time for a few months now. You shouldn’t use it during the day because it has retinoids in it that can harm your skin if exposed to light. This cream didn’t irritate my eyes at all and isn’t too expensive. For me (I’m in my 20s) I wanted a retinol eye cream to fight wrinkles before they started. This is perfect!
